The winter season is just about to get underway when it comes to broadcast TV, as the next month will feature a lot of returning shows, but broadcast TV hasn’t been my jam for years, outside of a sitcom or two. We’ve had a number of things we’ve checked out, but a lot of what I’ve been doing is rewatching older stuff. There’s a good mix of things as we gear up to get back into our Nordic Noir and some Brit crime, but as we barely watch any primetime broadcast stuff, it’s pretty much a feast or famine kind of situation for a lot of things.
We’re keeping things a bit short today as we’re still largely dealing with temps below zero, so keyboards are tough to use!
I am watching a few things, however, and am beyond glad to have Shrinking back for a third season. We’re also down to the final episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur, and are really pleased with the return of School Spirits. And as someone who has had Star Trek in their life since the mid 70s with the cartoon, and my father being a huge fan of the original, I’m enjoying Starfleet Academy, but am enjoying reading other voices talking about it than spending time on doing that myself.
First, Kelvin is taking a dip back in time with the 2004 SpongeBob SquarePants Movie release. I still have fond memories of seeing it when it came out, and then being able to get my kids to watch it when it hit home video the year after, since they were starting to get old enough. Does it still hold up all these years later?

And rounding things out, I’ve got a look at the third episode of Gimbap and Onigiri. Emotions are running high with this episode, thanks to a lot of miscommunication, and both of them need to just chill a bit and be clearer about things. Taiga’s in a place where he has to learn how to manage things better, and to be more socially outgoing with Rin so that she feels like she’s important to him. Rin, for her part, needs to ease back a bit since not everyone can justtext anytime throughout the day. And to also ease back just a touch since the relationship is so new, to put it through such hard paces so quickly. Just more clarity for both would be a big plus, but you also get the sense that Taiga is just so inexperienced with this, and broken from other things, that it’s going to be harder work for him that he needs to put in to get things on track – both now and in the future.
