For the Kid I Saw in My Dreams Vol. #03 Hardcover Manga Review

3 min read
This volume is developing further into the mystery that the author is trying to create but I feel that it's doing it too slowly.

What They Say:
Certain his twin is alive, Senri shifts his goal from avenging his brother to finding him. Enan is happy to join the search, relieved to see her friend’s face light up with hope after living in darkness for so long. Following the threads of distant memories, Senri uncovers new clues that suggest his parents’ involvement in a tangled plot, one that may well have led to their deaths. And now, as events continue to unfold, Senri fears Kazuto may be wrapped up in the sinister dealings of the city’s underworld as well. Has the homicidal “fire” man twisted his kind brother into something unimaginable…?!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
The mystery of Senri’s family is getting a bit more intriguing as Senri gets one step closer to the truth. Senri finds out that his brother is still alive but has joined forces with the man that killed their parents and started the fire. I was disappointed to see that Senri’s brother, Kazuto, doesn’t share the same power as Senri. I feel that it would make for good scenarios if both of them share the same abilities.

There is a flashback to when Senri and Enan were living in the Red Leaf Garden Orphanage. Both of those characters come from houses with tragedies and are defined by it. Enan can recognize that she hasn’t smiled and wants to be someone who is hopeful and encourages others to be hopeful as well. She wants Senri to be able to smile as well and can temporarily do so. Senri has been a character who meets the trope of being a dark, brooding, grumpy character but it was nice to see someone snap him out of it.

After the incident with Enan, I would of like to see him progress a little but he just goes back to his usual self. I wonder why Seijama, Naitou, and Totsuka are so loyal to Senri. Senri horribly treats them and then they end up getting beat when they do him favors. I hope that the reason for their loyalty is explained in further volumes otherwise this just doesn’t make sense.

I would like to see this volume create a more clear path to the mystery this book is aiming for. I feel like it’s going around in circles leaving only small clues of what the mystery is. There are some hints revealed in the book but it’s still too little to be satisfying. The few hints lead towards a family mystery but I would have liked to have seen more clues to suggest that there is a dark mystery hidden in Senri and Kazuto family.

In Summary
This volume is developing further into the mystery that the author is trying to create but I feel that it’s doing it too slowly. I hope that this build-up is worth it in the end. The series finally takes a break from grouchy Senri to show him with a temporary smile and a glint of hope. There are some fun moments with Senri and Enan and I would like to see more of those.  I would of like to see some character development with Senri but it doesn’t happen.
