Originally serialized in Comic Eros #57 and added to FAKKU during February 2020, Milky Way is a twenty-page story from creator Dagashi, who has over a dozen other works on the service. One of the things that continues to appeal about his work is that it does seem to work more with older characters than the usual high school set we see populating most stories. That gives Dagashi more range to work with, in my opinion, and some pretty creative stories. This one kind of leans into a subgenre a bit that I’m not too much of a fan of with its fetishes but the story as a whole is one that a lot of people can identify with and see it taken as an extreme.

The story introduces us to fourth-year college students Yuuichi and Naruse. The two of them have been dating since middle school but things got complicated along the way, first with her parents divorcing and putting some distance there and then college for both of them that’s very far away. They’ve kept up thanks to technology and you really get a good sense of just how into each other they are. Especially upon discovering that for the past six months, they’ve been escalating their video chats into something very explicit where Naruse as done away with any and all shyness she might have had at one point. She’s all in and it’s apparent both of them are craving each other hard and are not looking for satisfaction anywhere else but with each other.

The first half gives us that delightful part of the tale and then shifts to them meeting on the train as they’re spending some brief time together before the job hunt really gets underway. It’s one of those public moments that’s great, even as her skirt gets hiked a bit, because Dagashi is able to present that real passion to it. That said, it doesn’t take them long to get set up in a love hotel to really go all in with real physical attention and seeing all that tension and pent-up need come flowing out is great. It’s a heavy cover, which isn’t quite my thing, but watching just how the two of them interact and talk with each other is great. It’s all standard vanilla actions and all but it’s taken to such an extreme that it’s surprising how far Dagashi goes. But with the underlying element of them madly and passionately in love, it connects very well.

In Summary
Stories that involve long-distance relationships in hentai rarely play out this well as there’s usually some sort of cheating going on or something else that puts one of the characters in a bad place. Dagashi nicely subverts that and instead gives us the passion in one form and then shows that it’s far better in reality even while pent-up from it. They’re a cute couple and while Dagashi’s style puts Naruse into a place where she sometimes look like she’s got no mind, the whole thing hits well – especially if you’ve ever been in a long-distance relationship and had that wonderful reconnect moment.
