The anime adaptation of the Drifting Dragons manga from Taku Kuwabara saw its debut in Japan on January 8th, 2020 as part of the +Ultra block on Fuji TV with Netflix streaming locked in already. It’s not too often once a series is underway that we get more promos but they’ve dropped one for this where it’s set to showcase the start of the Giraud Arc from within the work that begins with the sixth episode.
The series is definitely a bit unusual in that it’s going to be getting weekly broadcasts but will also have all episodes available on Netflix the day after the first episode premieres. It’ll be interesting to see what the production committee makes of that data. Also interesting is that the first episode is a standard length 30-minute episode but the remainder will be 10-minutes each.
Tadahiro Yoshihira is on board to direct based on the scripts by Makoto Uezeu. Polygon Pictures is handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Sora Amamiya as Takita, Tomoaki Maeno as Mika, Sōma Saitō as Giraud, Kana Hanazawa as Vanabelle, Junichi Suwabe as Gibbs, Tomokazu Seki as Crocco, Takahiro Sakurai as Niko, Kousuke Toriumi as Berko, Rie Kugimiya as Capella, Kentarō Kumagai as Gaga, Shin Furukawa as Faye, Takashi Matsuyama as Badakin, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Oken, Yūto Uemura as Soraya, Chinatsu Akasaki as Mayne, Junya Enoki as Hiro, Kazuhiko Inoue as Yoshi, and Hiroo Sasaki as Lee. Additional casting includes Ayane Sakura as Katja, Sayaka Senbongi as Nanami, Maaya Sakamoto as Ascella, and Kiyonobu Suzuki as Ura.
Plot Concept: The draking vessel Quin Zaza soars through the skies, hunting dragons that hide in the clouds. A single big catch means full coffers and all the meat they can eat, while failure means an empty wallet and an even emptier stomach.
