What They Say
Accompanied by an entourage of demon guards, Princess Syalis takes a field trip to the human world to acquire a special pillow. Then she receives several invitations from her demon captors: First, to replace the cooks who have succumbed to heat exhaustion in the Demon Castle kitchen (somebody needs to make Quilladillo’s Monster Bird Egg Custard). Second, to attend a pajama party (despite being woefully ignorant of the concept). And third, to design a new area for the hero to explore (which turns out to be the exact opposite of what the demons had in mind).

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Syalis has been a hindrance more than a help for her captors. She has made herself quite at home in the demon realm, but that doesn’t mean that she is content. Her latest whim for a human sleep aid sends her on a quest to get one. The demons who try to stop her from escaping realize if they can’t stop her they might as well join her. So it’s a field trip to the last zone city!

Which turns out to be a theme park more than anything else. In between the hijinks, the demon king lets slip the real troubles between the humans and demons. Yet their fear of upsetting Syalis has kept them from venting their frustrations. Yet Syalis calmly returns back to her cell, even telling the demons “let’s go home.”

This volume is full of warm moments like that. From Syalis helping out in the cafeteria to designing her own dungeon for the hero. She has taken a more active role in the goings-on of the demon castle. When the demons fret that she can’t tell them apart when they’re in suits, they are proven wrong by finding Syalis’s notes on each of them. Not that she isn’t still causing distress, especially for the newest member of the cast.

We’re introduced to Bussy, a succubus who bears a striking resemblance to Syalis. Bussy thinks the princess is popular and wants to be popular too. Syalis thinks Bussy is a body double for her and trains her to act and behave like herself with the false idea that Bussy is there to die for her. She’s the latest in a long line of demons who have a tormented relationship with Syalis.

The most hilarious moment in this volume comes from a pajama party that Syalis is invited to. Not knowing how to behave during such an event (she has a very mistaken vision of what such a thing would be) she ends up practicing with the demon king. Him trying to coach her on girl talk is a sight to behold.

In Summary
The added warmth to the humor in this volume is a nice development, and I don’t just mean Syalis thawing out after her fourth trip to the icy zone. Syalis is becoming more than a nuisance for the demons. Dare I say she is becoming an ally? She discovers a talent for making desserts that she didn’t know she had. She makes an effort to help out her captors in many different capacities, putting her talents to use and taking part in brainstorming sessions. That doesn’t mean she isn’t still a handful for her captors, but it’s starting to feel like she’s their princess rather than a prisoner.
