The latest film from Masaaki Yuasa with Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara arrived in Japan this past summer and TOHO has now set the home video release plans. The film is getting separate DVD and Blu-ray regular editions priced at 3,800 yen and 4,800 yen respectively. A Blu-ray limited edition is priced at 6,800 yen and all three are scheduled for a December 18th, 2019 debut.  All of the editions will come with the promos and TV spots while the limited edition will have a second disc with event videos and various commemoration special program material.

The film translates as Ride Your Wave and GKIDS has picked up the North American rights to it, which was somewhat expected after they brought out Yuasa’s last two films. They’re planning an early 2020 theatrical debut for it.

Yuasa directed based on the screenplay from Reiko Yoshida and the film saw a June 21st, 2019 debut in Japan.

Ryota Katayose stars as Minato Hinageshi while Rina Kawaei plays Hinako Mikaimizu. This is Katayose’s first acting role but he comes from GENERATIONS from EXILE so there’s definitely some natural performer there.

Plot Concept: Upon entering university, Hinako moves to a coastal town. She loves surfing, and when she’s on the waves she’s fearless, but still feels uncertain about her future. When a fire wreaks havoc in the town, Hinako encounters young firefighter Minato. As they surf and spend more time together, Hinako feels drawn to someone like Minato who devotes himself to helping other people. Hinako also holds a special place in Minato’s heart.
