What They Say
Enduring the “Big Debt Settlement Meeting” together may have deepened the bond between Yumeko and Mary, but in this academy, friendships tend to be fragile. Having tasted victory, the pair suddenly find themselves prime targets. In the case of Yumeko, that would be the eyepatch-wearing Midari Ikishima. And just who’s got Mary in the crosshairs…? In this third volume of the story about an academy filled with beautiful women, the concepts of good and evil are turned on themassivelys!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Yumeko seems like a total nut job. Not only does she gamble with massive sized pots, but she is probably the only person at Hyakkaou Private Academy that enjoys being a House Pet. However, now we know why Yumeko enjoys being a House Pet; she can challenge anyone to a public battle and they cannot refuse. Thus, being a House Pet allows her to challenge the Student Council members. That is what drives Yumeko now; the chance to gamble against the top gamblers at school.

Until Yumeko’s loss to the Student Council President, she had been undefeated since entering Hyakkaou Private Academy. Her loss to the President put her in debt 310 million yen. That would have spelled the doom of any other girl on campus and ended with them being given one of the dreaded Life Schedule books. This happens when a student gets so far in debt that they are unlikely to be able to repay. In that case, the Student Council draws up the debtor’s life schedule from graduation, to who and when they will marry, to how many children they will have. It is the ultimate form of control and the prime example of the Student Council’s twisted sense of rule over the student body.

This is enough for Mary to form a grudge against the President. So much so, that Mary will do everything in her power to destroy the Student Council at any cost. While I can side with Mary’s anger toward the Student Council, Yumeko continues to be an enigma. Yumeko seems to live for the thrill of gambling, but not for monetary or social gain. So what is Yumeko’s angle?

Turns out, Yumeko isn’t the craziest person on campus. The hands down queen of psychos is the one-eyed head of the Beautification Committee, Midari. Unlike some kids that wear an eyepatch because of their infected eye or as a fashion statement, Midari only has one eye. She lost it during a game and has been trying to find the same thrill from that day ever since. Midari is so crazy she forces Yumeko to gamble with her in a modified game of Russian Roulette. Is it a death sentence for one of the girls, or will they both be able to walk away alive?

In Summary:
In the Hyakkaou Private Academy there are regular kids, extremely intelligent kids, kids drunk on power, and kids that are just plain crazy. The eye-patch wearing Midari shows up and instantly manages to steal the crown of crazy from Yumeko. Midari is freaking crazy. Where Yumeko seems to gamble for the thrill, Midari gambles for the chance to die. She finds the risk of death the greatest thrill in life. Yumeko and Midari clash head on in a match of chance, deception, and bullets. This ramps up the excitement of this series to an 11.
