The 2009 book Sushi and Beyond from travel and dining journalist Michael Booth made its way to Japan in 2013 as Eikoku Ikke, Nihon o Taberu aka British Family, Eat Japan and now it’s getting a bit of an animated adaptation. NHK World does a fair bit of material that’s outside of the norm when it comes to animation choices and this adaptation is set for an international audience on April 12, as well as getting a regular NHK broadcast on April 16th as it tells the tale.
Fanworks is providing the animation for the property with Rareko directing it.
Plot concept: The book follows Booth, his wife Lissen, and two kids Ansger (6) and Emil (4), on their 100-day trip to Japan as they try a wide variety of Japanese foods. Booth was inspired to make the trip by Shizuo Tsuji’s book, Japanese Cooking, A Simple Art.
