Star Wars Thursday: Get Racing Edition

3 min read

Star Wars Racing 1Welcome back to Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of the wonderful and often wacky world of a galaxy far, far away.

I’ve never been a runner. In high school, I only ran enough to get through PE class with my “A” intact. I tried to do a 5K training program last year and just ended up with mangled knees and a bad attitude. My joints just can’t handle the stress. In the world of Star Wars, I’d be tech support behind a screen in the Rebel Alliance.

Still, if there were going to be anything that would prod me to give it one more try, it would be the fact that there are Star Wars races each year at Disney. Watching all the fun photos come through my feed last week almost… almost… made me hop off of my elliptical and onto a treadmill.

If you are the running type, you now have a full year to get ready for the Disney races. They host a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and various special races for children. If you think you are really fit for the Alliance, you can take on the Rebel Challenge and complete the half marathon AND the 10K!

All that Star Wars running fun definitely requires some new gear, though. You’ll want to sport running attire that celebrates your favorites as you burst past the finish lines. Some racers may be sporty and know their way around a sewing machine. For the rest of us; there is Etsy. Most of what I found involves sparkles or tutus, though, so you’ll have to be willing to be seriously festive!

Everyone wants to be a princess while at Disney, right? Strap on this Princess Leia tutu before you hit the races and you’ll be the fiercest of them all. (By jettyspagetti.)

If you plan to go back to the parks at night, this fiber optic addition will ensure you get all the attention. I wonder if there is a way to turn off the glow if you are starting to catch the eye of the Imperials? (By AandEcustomTUTUS)

Perhaps you’d like a more sedate look. May I interest you in this rebel alliance running skirt, then? It’s available in a variety of colors, although I don’t yet see the option to get the Rebel symbol in the dark pink that is Sabine’s signature color. (By RunPrincessRun)

There’s no way that C-3PO would survive running even a 5K, but you can still bring his shiny look to the races. Just don’t spend your whole race telling your fellow runners the odds of winning the race. (By RunningCouture)

You can even look more like Threepio by adding some solid gold color calf sleeves! (By RunAliceRunCo)

I did manage to find a few items that don’t involve tutus or skirts. This top will make you look like you are ready to hop into an X-wing to take on the Empire! Each top is made to order, so yours will fit perfectly. (By iGlowRunning)

No one enjoys having hair get in their eyes while running. Heck, this is something even I could use on a regular day! Maybe Stormtroopers can’t shoot straight because hair gets in their eyes under those helmets? (By ChickyBands)

When the races are over for the year, here is a Star Wars way to keep all your mementos safe and secure. (By BibBinders)

A runner is never too old to begin the training. Get ready for next year’s races!

Until next week – may the Force be with you.
