Log Horizon 2 | Episode 13log-horizon-2-episode-13

Buckeye: That was pretty funny seeing the girls trying so hard to fall in love like that, and it’s hard to figure out just what Tetra is up to seeing that it’s a guy and Naotsugu is not in the mood for yaoi. It’s great seeing Serara again doing what she can to show her love for Nyanta, and that’s cute. So that’s an enjoyable fluff episode there. Next time, the genki martial arts girl Kanami from the opening teaser finally appears, and it looks like Nureha is falling out of favor with Plant Hwyaden, so it will be interesting to see what that guild is up to.

Hitsugi Amachi: That was cute and all, but the end was the important part. We learn that Intix is a megalomaniac who wants to take over the entire Yamato server. Plant Hwyaden itself seems to be a sick, mirror image of a healthy guild, with the insane Intix and the mentally unbalanced Nureha. Nureha herself was actually turned into something of a damsel in distress here and it appears that she does want to be saved…by Shiroe. Though we get a callback to the first season, where Shiroe told her straight up that he could help her more as an enemy than as a friend. And so it will turn out to be. I think we have the events of the second cour pretty much lined up now, don’t we?

Jun Kuga: It’ll be interesting to see how that goes. More Nureha can ony be a good thing, as she’s one seriously foxy lady. That and Shiroe needs a rival intellect.

[Intix’s megalomania] is quite important – as the Yamato server now has ownership rights to all of the world’s fields and buildings. Remember when Shiroe handed over all rights to the Yamato server?

EyeOfPain: Didn’t he only hand over the ownership rights to Akiba, which is what the Round Table/Log Horizon already own, with a plan to borrow money from the Kunie Clan to do the same for all other regions in Yamato?

Hitsugi Amachi: …except we’re diverting to a side-story with Kanami next week.

Jun Kuga: I’ll actually bet that there’s a lot of hidden information within Kanami’s side story. Plus hey, even if there’s not. Kanami!

bctaris: And finally something away from Yamato, on the China server. Very neat. Kanami, and some small resurgence in spirit or actual numbers of the Tea Party was always going to play a part in this season. She was the biggest tease in the OP from the beginning.

After 12 episodes of relative seriousness, and death, and grumpy Demikas, and emotional William, and the dastardly Kunie clan…I seriously enjoyed the lighter parts of this episode. But that’s how much I enjoy the characters themselves, and how many of them there are to play around with. It was a good and well-timed break.

Jun Kuga: And finally.. we see Risa and Liese, and a mechanical hand. I would absolutely love to know exactly what the flavour text on Calamity is. Who knows – we could see more next week…

bctaris: Nice of Lenessia, of everyone, to actually remember Crusty’s been missing since, oh, episode 6 now. The mechanical hand was interesting. Radio Market’s doing, with research from Roderick, but I wonder how they went about it in a world with salamander-fueled ovens.

Speaking of magical objects, however, the “new bride apron” has to be one of the best. I want a back story where Nyanta and Marielle went on some long, brutal quest together to get those.

GingaDaiuchuu: Primarily a forgettable Valentine’s Day gag one-off, but at least we got some solid Nureha material at the end. Always good to have, and it gives the episode some real substance after all. I just wish we were getting into that as the focus right away.

I did appreciate the callback to Shiroe’s cake trauma, though.

EyeOfPain: I might have to re-watch the first season, because I don’t remember the cake trauma, or much about Nureha’s appearance.

Buckeye: That seemed like ages ago seeing how this show spent so much time with the raid and the PK. What I remember with the cake trauma is that Shiroe ended up with an upset stomach after eating so much cake in a cake-eating contest with Akatsuki and Minori. Nureha made a brief appearance at the end asking Shiroe to do something for her and he wanted no part of it.
