The first two seasons and the OVA for Hakuoki are getting some new releases in Japan where Geneon Universal is now setting various box set releases for both DVD and Blu-ray. The first season is getting a Blu-ray box set on November 27th for 19950 yen which has some first press materials such as a booklets and bonus CD. The DVD version is landing a month later on December 25th for 7140 yen. The second season Blu-ray box set lands on that day as well for 18990 yen which also comes with a booklet and CD. The DVD version also lands on December 25th, again at a much lower price of 7140 yen. The OVA release, which is much shorter, hits on DVD only on December 25th also priced at 7140 yen. It’s not exactly the smoothest of releases across different formats and pricing, with the Blu-ray sets being priced as expected, but the temptation of savings for the DVDs are definitely there.

Sentai Filmworks has licensed and release the first two seasons and OVA all on DVD with dubs while the third season is due out now on both DVD and Blu-ray.

Plot concept: Disguised as a man, Chizuru Yukimura has come to Kyoto searching for her missing father, a doctor who developed a magical elixir that increases the drinker’s speed, strength, and healing abilities. Instead of her father, however, she stumbles across a battle between the Shinsengumi and the Furies, evil vampire-like creatures of their own making.

It turns out the Shinsengumi are also searching for her father, and when they discover who she is, they decide to take her into their custody for safekeeping. But her sex is not the only secret Chizuru has, and as more and more Furies begin appearing in Kyoto and the situation becomes ever deadlier, the Shinsengumi may find that the Furies are the least of their problems!
