Gatchaman Crowds Episode 7 | TFP ReviewGatchaman Crowds Episode 7

Jimmie M: Joe vs Berg Katze, Round 2-FIGHT! And during the fight (plus before when Rui confronted Katze before Sugane got Rui to safety) our suspicions about Katze’s possible connections to Gatchaman are confirmed at a terrible cost to the Gatchaman team. Meanwhile, Paiman finally goes into action with probably the most awesome Gatchaman transformation yet (his version of the God Phoenix so he can take Hajime & Utsutsu to the scene)-But if he’s going to do that then he should at least get into the fight! And a riddle for Hajime as a parting gift from Katze, who also apparently appreciates the fact that she actually gave what he said before about the world going up in big red blaze some thought.

I know that some folks still don’t consider this show to be Gatchaman but I can’t see how one can miss the parallel in this episode concerning Joe with what happened to Joe the Condor late in the original Science Ninja Team Gatchaman-Hopefully we won’t get the same result. Good, intense episode overall.

BTW, “What is the sweetest & tastiest thing that every human being loves?” Any thoughts?

dsmith: My silly guesses are “chocolate” and “revenge”. Possibly “revenge chocolate overdose”.

Overall, I’m enjoying this show far more than I ever originally expected. I have only vague memories of watching the original Gatchaman as a kid, so a lot of the negative talk leading up to the series was just, “Whatever.” Still, a reboot of a 70’s show was not exactly high on my priority list.

However I’m finding Hajime to be one of my absolute favorite characters, despite a lot of the backlash against the show in a number of blogs. She’s more than just ‘smart’ (in the “yeah, she’s smart, but nothing she thinks/says actually matters in the long run” stereotype of the ‘smart’ girl character); she’s intelligent. There’s none of the normal refusal/grudging acceptance under duress/”I just want to be a normal girl” nonsense.

Jimmie M: I couldn’t agree more. Just look at what happened when she & Utsutsu arrive at the area where the battle between Joe & Berg Katze takes place-While Utsutsu was helping Joe & Sugane with their injuries, Hajime could have transformed & engaged Katze in another ultimately futile fight but instead she engages him in conversation to try to figure out who he is & why he’s doing these things (And Katze doesn’t attack her but instead lets her go because she actually thought about what he said before about the big blaze). It comes back to the questions that Hajime’s been asking Paiman about the Gatchaman team & had been getting very little in the way of direct answers about: Why are we fighting, who are we fighting & why do we have to operate in secret? Despite appearances Hajime is one sharp girl & has been very interesting to watch, no doubt about it.
