The CW Exploring ‘Wonder Woman’ TV Series

2 min read

After the thankful death of the Wonder Woman series that was in development from David E. Kelley, it looks like there may be some hope yet for the character herself. Wonder Woman has not had a good history when it comes to adaptations outside of the comics (and animation) as the live action scripts seem to go nowhere, are horribly translated, completely miss the point and then factors in the problem that many have in Hollywood about an action film with a female lead, something that many still doesn’t think works. And they do have some numbers to back that up.

Which brings us to the The CW, which is partially owned by Warner Bros. who owns the rights to the character. While they’ve given thing a year to cool off after Smallvillethey’re getting ready to roll out the Green Arrow adaptation with Arrow and now it appears that they’re looking to try and bring Wonder woman to the small screen as well. The project is being shepherded by Allan Heinberg, who is known in the TV world for his work on Gilmore Girls but is also known to comics fans as he’s written Wonder Woman comics before. He’s set to write the script for a series that’s being given a development named of Amazon. According to the information, it doesn’t have a pilot commitment yet  but Warner wants to build off of the overall momentum of its various properties that are out there. The plans are to go back to basics, starting from a modernized origin retelling (which we’ve just seen in the comics anyway) and to “focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty.”
