Star Wars Thursday: Fortune Wookiee Edition

2 min read

Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

Last week marked the release of the third book in the Origami Yoda series, called The Secret of the Fortune Wookiee. My sons and I have already read and loved this latest installment. Tom Angleberger is one of my favorite authors for upper elementary students, because he has a great sense of humor and isn’t afraid to give his books a hefty dose of Star Wars references. Tom has an active voice online. He’s @OrigamiYoda on Twitter and has a fabulous blog where he encourages readers to participate as “super folders”. Here’s to you, Tom Angleberger! I’m dedicating this week’s post to the Fortune Wookiee.

Check out this book trailer, and see if you can spot all the geeky references.

If you haven’t experienced the joy of origami, there’s no better place to start than with Star Wars folding! The Origami Yoda series includes directions for the characters used in the books, but I’m sure you’ll want to try your hand at some harder folds, too. This book is for you.

In the book, the Fortune Wookiee sounds just like Chewbacca. Who can interpret what he has to say? Han Foldo! Celebrate their friendship with this felt coaster set from Monster Den’s Etsy shop.

Now this last item I’m almost afraid to share. You see, I want it. This was a Comic-Con exclusive, but Think Geek has some still in stock. If I go try to buy one later, and it is sold out, I will be quite put out.

What’s that, Chewie?
“Grrraaawwwrg!”
Ahh…. he’d like to say, “Until next week – may the Force be with you!”
