‘K-On!’ Movie Has Solid Japanese Box Office Premiere

1 min read

This past Saturday saw the Roadshow release of the K-On! movie and it definitely made an impression on viewers and the box office. The feature was shown on 137 screens and had a take of 316.3 million yen, which is the equivalent of just over $4 million US. This compares with the pre-US release of The Adventures of Tintin which has made the same on 895 screens and is definitely better than several other anime films compared to, though it’s not on the same level as large franchises like One Piece or Evangelion.

Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-hen: 200 million yen on 90 screens
Summer Wars: 127 million yen on 172 screens
Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance: 512.2 million yen on 120 screens
One Piece Film: Strong World: 485 million yen on 188 screens.
