Wagnaria!! Season 2 Episode #07 Anime Review

4 min read

When reports of a molester hanging out in the back street that Mahiru takes to work make their way to both her school and her workplace, people are concerned…for the molester, since Mahiru is likely to punch him until there is nothing left but a pulp.

What They Say:
“Bad Tuning of Love”

Inami hears from a classmate that a molester has been appearing on the street she takes to work. And on her way in, she encounters them!

So, Mahiru has friends who know all about her inhuman strength and unhealthy hatred of men. They also, however, see no problem in using her as a public resource, telling her about a molester who has been hanging around the street that she takes to work normally, a back-way that does not normally get a lot of traffic. Their intention is that Mahiru will go and punch the lights out of the molester. While she is not happy about her friends’ impression of her (it’s accurate, however), she does go her usual way to work and does encounter a high school boy who tries to grab her. He claims he is not a molester, however, but is looking for his sister, who is in disguise. What is interesting about this boy is that he is capable of stopping Mahiru’s punch, and is also impressed with her power and beauty (we’re not really sure in which order).

Of course, this being Working!!, it’s not unconnected with work, and it appears that the boy’s name is Kirio Yamada, and his hair color is the same and his face reminiscent of another Yamada we’ve met before. Inami assumes that this Yamada is the big brother of Aoi Yamada, the freeloading loafer at the restaurant. But that may not be the case, at least according to Sota, who assures Mahiru that the Yamada at the restaurant is more than likely using a fake name. In other words, slacker, dish-dropping Yamada is not a real Yamada. This reassures Mahiru enough.

The next day, Inami talks to Kirio in the alleyway again. At the restaurant, Popura is worried about her and cajoles Sota into going out to look for Mahiru in the back alley. While Inami and Kirio are talking, Sota comes upon them, though they don’t see him. Seeing Inami talking to a guy without wailing away at him, he turns around and goes back to the restaurant. There, Popura asks what happens, but he doesn’t give much of an explanation. Popura, however, is scared by the look on his face. For as we know, Sota, even though he claims he doesn’t like Mahiru as a person, oddly gets jealous when others get close to her. Back at home, he consults a bunch of guides for caring for pets. (Yes, he thinks of Inami as a pet).

At work the next day, he is in a daze, as he seems to slowly be coming to the realization that the feelings he has towards Inami are not that of master and pet. What he worries about, however, is not whether he is in love with Mahiru or not. His worry is that he may be masochist, who secretly enjoys being physically abused by Inami. His little sister assures him that he isn’t, and at work the next day, he confronts Inami by telling her that he is not a masochist, and thus appears to be back to normal.

After the Ending Animation, we have an amusing coda where Kozue, Sota’s drunken older sister, comes to the restaurant and changes all of the waitresses’ uniforms, turning Yamada into a cat, Popura into a puppy, and even getting animal outfits for Yachiyo and Inami. Sota, when he arrives, immediately recognizes this as the handiwork of his elder sister, but says that it would only have been cute on all the girls ten years ago.

In Summary:
A new character is introduced, a boy named Kirio Yamada who is searching for his younger sister. Is he related to Aoi Yamada, the slacker at the restaurant? Mahiru initially thinks so, but Sota does not think this is the case. But Kirio seems to be the only boy who can stand up to Mahiru without getting pummeled, and even more, the two seem to be able to talk naturally to each other. This, however, stirs up a hornet’s nest of jealousy on the part of Sota.
