Right Stuf has kicked off their Sentai Filmworks sale this week and it’s timed well considering they just added all their January titles to their listings. We also got in our copy of the Clannad Blu-ray last night and sampled the first episode, which looked quite appealing and is definitely a fantastic high def release at $54 through the sale. Having both tracks in lossless 5.1 really makes the whole thing sound even better than I expected. Obviously the big pre-order news this week was Madoka going up for sale, but of course Madoka wasn’t the first anime to showcase intense fights between girls on crazy backdrops, oh no. I speak, of course, of the Utena movie, which I happened to catch a bit of earlier while a co-worker was doing subtitle checks on the director’s commentary. If you thought certain scenes were strange before (and please, let’s not spoil the pure, magical surprise for anyone who doesn’t already know the ending), they’re even better with Kunihiko Ikuhara expounding on how much he loves the symbolism of, say, the color red and [SPOILER REDACTED]. “Not everyone understood why I chose to do this scene…” No kidding.
Amusing anecdote for all the H guys on this board: last week, Like a Mom and Like a Virgin went head to head in the specials. I’m not going to say there were any bets going on in the office, but let the record state the milfs easily won by a margin comfortably over 4-1.
