SF Feature ‘The Signal’ Gets First Trailer

The SignalWith science fiction films once again getting the go ahead more than they used to, it also means we get some smaller ones out there as well rather than just big budget extravaganzas. Such is the case with Filmdistrict’s planned June 2014 release of The Signal, which brings in Laurence Fishburne with Brenton Thwaites. This one goes for a pretty good mystery/thriller type of approach here and looks to do some good things in terms of atmosphere. It’s being directed by William Eubank, who directed the 2011 feature Love, but he’s largely worked as a cinematographer outside of that.

Plot concept: Three college students on a road trip across the Southwest experience a detour: the tracking of a computer genius who has already hacked into MIT and exposed security faults. The trio find themselves drawn to an eerily isolated area. Suddenly everything goes dark. When one of the students, Nic (Brenton Thwaites of “The Giver” and “Maleficent”), regains consciousness, he is in a waking nightmare…
