The move of Kara into the bigger world of Injustice 2 has been a long time in coming but it was built up right so that when it did happen there was some good weight behind it. Tom Taylor has made good use of Kara in this form and that’s accented even more in this installment as she gets some solid interaction. It also doesn’t hurt that Daniel Sampere turns in another great looking issue where it feels like his work across the property since his first installment is continually becoming better and better looking. With Juan Albarran inking and Rex Lokus on colors, the whole book comes alive really well here to be something that’s thoroughly engaging panel to panel.

There are a few different things going on but I like that we get some preparation on the ground in regards to Amazo since nobody knows what happened. There’s some mild bits of important humor in the mix but I really enjoyed Diana realizing Cassie was alive and finding out what happened to her, which is again shattering some of her image of Superman. I also really liked what we got out of Gorilla City this time around as the fight to deal with Amazo from this front has paid off and that now has the group being plainly hunted. Their escape is critical but that doesn’t go well in the slightest. While Damian being captured is setting up for a Kara rescue down the line, the death of Buddy in the escape is nicely done – even if I hold out hope that his powers allow him to live somehow. But the series has been short on serious deaths for a while now and we were, frankly, due.

The best sequence, however, is what’s happening on the moon. It’s here that Sampere’s artwork really stands out for me like Redondo’s did with some great backgrounds and just the way the scale plays out, going from these big moments to more personal ones. Beetle is ideal in situations like this as he helps out Kara with some oxygen and the two have a good few minutes just sitting together talking. Her panic attack feels legitimate with what Amazo is considering her own past with Brainiac and dealing with the brain of Amazon so simply is very well as there’s a clear decision there. It is curious to see her asking him to keep the secret of who she is – which ought to be fun considering how Beetle gets around Batman – but it establishes a trust between the two sides that can become useful later.

In Summary:
Injustice 2 is firing on all cylinders but I find myself kind of low key panicking with each issue as I keep expecting a sudden end to the book as I don’t know where it’ll go and how it’ll connect to the games that I don’t play. Until that happens, however, this is one very fun ride and this issue shows the creative time really continuing to work through their stride and delivering a great book with lots of little subplots and some solid bigger moments to keep it all moving forward. A very strong installment after several of those already.
