‘Kick-Ass 2’ Heads To Universal

1 min read

Kick-Ass may not have done what some fans wanted it to do, but on its $30 million budget it brought in just under $100 million in theaters worldwide and has gained a steady stream of fans through home video and broadcast. The feature, developed by Matthew Vaughn based on the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr, is now moving from Lionsgate to Universal as the original was financed by Vaughn and just distributed by Lionsgate. Talks are underway now to bring the sequel to Universal where Vaughn, who is hard at work at the next X-Men: First Class feature, will take on a producing role with Jeff Wadlow set to direct.

The sequel will adapt the works that Millar created in follow-up with Kick-Ass 2 and Hit-Girl spinoffs that are now hitting the comic market. The hope is that if everything is finalized quickly, production can start in September with the majority of the cast wanting to come back to reprise their roles.
