‘Captain America: Civil War’ Adds Paul Rudd, Story Concept

2 min read

Captain America - Civil WarWith principal photography beginning in Atlanta, Marvel Studios has done their due diligence in announcing the project with the story concept for the film Captain America: Civil War. They’ve also announced the formalized cast, which now includes Paul Rudd as well as Ant-Man. The cast has had their characters tied to them, though Daniel Bruhl doesn’t have his listed nor does Martin Freeman. Bruhl has largely confirmed that he’s playing Baron Zemo, so it’s just a matter of obscuring the villain at the moment. Spider-man isn’t listed either, mostly because the casting hasn’t been done and that’ll be it’s own big announcement.

While the film uses the Civil War moniker, fans should really remember that this won’t be the comic version of it by any stretch. This is a scaled down theatrical version of it with different characters and different reasons that spin out of Age of Ultron. And I expect that we’ll see some ramifications before and after it playing within Agents of SHIELD.

Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Martine Freeman and Daniel Bruhl. The film opens May 6, 2016

Plot concept: “Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
