‘Stitch!’ Anime Gets Disney XD Broadcast

2 min read

With eighty-six episodes in the can in Japan, and its most recently season of thirty episodes finishing up this past June, Disney XD in the US is finally getting the Stitch! anime for release here, dubbed. The series in Japan was animated by Madhouse for its first and second seasons with Shin-Ei animation taking on the third season, and it looks like at least the first season will be airing here as the first five episodes have been listed for broadcast this week on the cable network. The show began airing in Japan in 2008 and has come back for two additional seasons of thirty episodes each since then, though the 2010-2011 season changed up the animation company. The series uses the familiar character of Stitch but places him in Okinawa instead of Hawaii as in the movie and runs with plenty of Stitch related silliness, but as has been noted during its Japanese run, the content does have a darker edge to it than what the US Lilo & Stitch shows have been like and the movie itself, so some may not consider it entire kid-friendly (i.e. sanitized). If you have Disney XD, check it out and the numerous repeat plays it will inevitably have.
