Third ‘TRON’ Feature Film In The Works

2 min read

Tron LegacyWith the 1982 TRON film having a solid cult following, it felt like it took Disney forever to really mine it and come up with something new, which was the 2010 film TRON: Legacy, as well as a short lived animated TV series with TRON: UprisingLegacy didn’t do well enough at the time as it made $400 million worldwide on a $170 million budget, so it wasn’t a winner by any stretch since only a percentage of overseas ticket sales makes it back to the actual production.

But fans have held out hope that a new installment that would be coming. Now word is that a third film is scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver this fall with an October 5th start date revealed. According to the report, Garrett Hedlund is set to reprise his role as Sam Flynn but there seems to be word that the director of the second film, Joseph Kosinski, is likely to return as well to direct this one. Kosinski gained a lot of attention for the visual style applied to the film and he went in a solid direction with the 2013 film Oblivion, which I enjoyed a great deal. He’s been attached to several projects since then, but nothing has come to fruition yet.
