Known originally as Arafō Otoko no Isekai Tsūhan Seikatsu, the winter 2025 anime adaptation of The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World has a lot of material to work with. The original novel series began in 2017 and wrapped up in 2021 but saw a formal light novel published in 2018 that has three volumes out. It also has a manga that began in 2019 and wrapped up in 2024 with seven volumes released through Comikey and Square Enix in English. The anime itself has Yoshihde Yuzumi directing it from the series scripts by Masano Akahoshi. Yuzumi has a number of director’s creds to their name and a couple of full-series ones such as Oneechan ga Kita and Yurumates while Akahoshi worked on a lot of Cardfight Vanguard and A Certain Magical Index among others East Fish Studio is handling the animation itself and they continue to be an interesting studio that kicked off back in 2017.

As we get closer to the end of the season, a lot of things are in play with the area that Kenichi has set up his home in. There continue to be some bigger things at play, mostly in regards to the ruling class and the power plays there, as the cold open covers some of that while trying to find a solution that will invariably involve Kenichi and his mighty bag of goods. On the more personal side, Kenichi is trying to figure out more of what Anemone is capable of since she’s proving to be quite talented when it comes to magic and that has him trying to find out more about her mother and doing some research in town in a quiet kind of way. And considering the scale of her abilities that are coming into focus, it’s certainly worth doing since she’s probably got some lineage to her. Of course, a little more has to be thrown into the mix to complicate things with Anemone having her first period, which amusingly sends him into a panic. Though her saying she can now have kids with him is where he’s really scared – and where Primula again reinforces her claim.

With that setting some things up for the final couple of episodes, we also get the arrival of Primula’s father to help in dealing with Thogalum and his manipulations in the kingdom. There’s some fun stuff with Mallow’s arrival, but it moves quickly to a confrontation with Thogalum in town as he’s got a number of hired guards to try and do his dirty work. They are, smartly, wary of going up against Kenichi considering what they see of him and a giant monster being dealt with first, but they’re paid to do the work and do it they must, to great and significant pain and loss. All of this is serving to draw more attention to Kenichi who has now gotten a summons to see the king, which has Thogalum figuring this will eliminate his problem for him. It’s not the slow life he was hoping for here as it’s just getting complicated no matter where he sets himself up. With him seeing the bigger picture coming into focus, though, he knows he can’t just let it go and move along again. That has him working with Mallow to deal with a few changes while he shifts focus to this new meeting. But what’s welcome is seeing how Primula steps up in a big way to support him in all of this. She may be a forceful part of nature in how she became his wife and a part of his life, but she’s fully invested in her relationship with him.

In Summary:
With two more episodes to go, it’s clear what the final arc is shaping up as and it’s not a surprise considering it’s been building there for a while in smaller ways. But it’s all converging now and Kenich is reluctantly stepping up. What I like is that while he does kind of prod the idea of just moving on again, the reality is that he knows he has to face this and is just putting it all in order so he can do so, completely supported by Primula and everyone else that hs’ connected with since coming here. It’s got a solid build to it while teasing what’s to come which leaves me curious to see just how far it’ll go – and if it can wrap things up solidly enough for viewers to feel satisfied with it.
