With a lot of excitement a few years back about Discotek Media picking up the Blu-ray rights for the three-part story that makes up the film Memories, the distributor put out a pretty good release that also saw some expanded streaming along the way.

Now, it looks like another player is taking a stab at the property as Spanish distributor Selecta Vision revealed in an event for fans last week that they’re planning a 4K UHD release. you can see the announcement in the event video below around the 36-minute mark. No details with dates, extras, or pricing were revealed.

The Blu-ray release from Discotek was done in 1080p and will be getting a new translation done for the subtitles. The release came with a few extras, including a ‘Making of Memories’ Featurette, the pilot films for Magnetic Rose, Stink Bomb, and Cannon Fodder, and Interviews with Katsuhiro Otomo, Koji Morimoto, and Tensai Okamura that we’ve seen before. It also looks like we’ll be getting an animated storyboard sequence for the Cannon Fodder piece along with translation and liner notes.

Plot concept: Created by celebrated anime master Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira), ‘Memories’ consists of three dazzling stories, each delivered with its own astonishing style.

Magnetic Rose: Based on a manga short by Otomo, two space travelers following a distress signal are drawn into a magnificent world created by one woman’s memories. (Directed by Koji Morimoto)

Stink Bomb: A young chemist accidentally transforms himself into an unstoppable biological weapon set on a direct course for Tokyo. (Directed by Tensai Okamura)

Cannon Fodder: A day in the life of a city whose entire purpose is the firing of cannons at an unknown enemy. (Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo)
