The anime TV series that kept me into anime back in the early 1990s recently its way to Blu-ray box set form with Urusei Yatsura. Warner Bros. Japan previously announced that the 218-episode series which came out back at the end of 2017 with two sets that covered the massive 195-episode property.
With North American distributor Discotek Media bringing out the films recently on Blu-ray for the first time here, they’ve also wrapped up on the home video releases of the TV series. That now has them announcing the eleven OVA specials which are being done as a single-disc release that will be in native HD except for the tenth episode which is an upscale due to materials available. They’ll be in their original Japanese language with English subtitles.
I have such fond memories of those blue VHS tapes back in the 90s, getting the LaserDisc box set of the TV series, and then spending so much time whipping up support to get the TV show released on DVD. It’s amazing to see this getting attention again, and at the same time we’re getting a new adaptation of the manga.
