A new anime adaptation is in the works for the winter 2023 period with the fantasy novel series Kaiko Sareta Ankoku Heishi (30-Dai) no Slow na Second Life getting the nod. The series translates as The Slow Second Life of the Retired Dark Soldier in His 30s and the news came through the wraparound on the seventh volume of the manga that was released at the end of July 2022.
The series saw a January 7th, 2023 debut as Chillin’ in My 30s After Getting Fired from the Demon King’s Army with Crunchyroll handling it. Now, Australian distributor Madman Entertainment has scheduled a home video release for it. The set is planned for an April 3rd, 2024 release on Blu-ray priced at $64.95. It’ll be a two-disc release in Japanese with English subtitles only that comes with the promos and clean theme songs as extras.
A formal solicitation will come later confirming dates and details.
Fumitoshi Oizaki is serving as the director with Yoshihide Yuuzumi assisting. Hitomi Amamiya is handling the scripts and overall composition while Satomi Yonezawa is on board for the character designs. Encourage is handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Tomokazu Sugita as Dariel, Akane Fujita as Marika, Atsushi Abe as Bashvaza, Tetsuya Kakihara as Gashita, Rumi Okubo as Zeviantes, Akari Kitō as Lady, Mai Nakahara as Droye, Satoshi Tsuruoka as Vezelia, Kenji Hamada as Envil, Keiko Watanabe as Erika, Shinnosuke Tachibana as Lizette, Hiroshi Iwasaki as Smith, Masaki Terasoma as Granbaza, Kazuhiko Inoue as Aransil, Yūki Kudō as Satome, Hiromichi Tezuka as Sessha, and Takaki Ōtomari as Fitbitan.
Hinano is handling the opening theme for the series with “CHANGEMAKER” while Akari Kito, who has a role in the series, will be performing the ending theme song “Dear Doze Days” for the project.
The novel series comes from writer Rokujuyon Okazawa which began in 2018 and wrapped up in 2020. The manga from Rurekuchie began in 2019 and is ongoing.

Plot Concept: Dariel is a soldier in the Dark Lord’s army who cannot use magic. Instead, he wields his intellect and initiative as an assistant to one of the Dark Lord’s most trusted captains. But when the captain is summarily replaced, Dariel also loses his privileged position and is fired. In disappointment, he retires in a village of humans, getting a new start at life by using his abilities to accept requests for help.
