The anime TV series that kept me into anime back in the early 1990s made its way to Blu-ray box set form in Japan a few years ago with Urusei Yatsura. That series ran for 218 episodes, saw half a dozen movies, and a bunch of OVAs over its run, and has been a regular go-to for me in bringing a smile to my face over the years.

This new adaptation is set to run for four cour with a 46-episode run planned in full where there will be a two-cour consecutive run that will make up the first season of this adaptation. The series saw an October 13th, 2022 premiere with streaming through HIDIVE and bilibili. We learned earlier this summer that the second season which will be two-cour will arrive in January 2024.

That’s now gotten a further update with a January 11th, 2024 premiere date set for it, the addition of Miyu Irino as Inaba, and the confirmation that the second season will be two consecutive cours that will run through the spring. Additionally, a new promo has arrived.

Previously revealed new additions include:

  • M.A.O as Asuka Mizunokōji
  • Toshiharu Sakurai as Asuka’s Father
  • Kotono Mitsuishi as Asuka’s Mother
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shingo
  • Motoko Kumai as Kokeru Moroboshi
  • Manaka Iwami as Nozomi
  • Ayumu Murase as Nagisa Shiowatari
  • Koichi Sakaguchi as Nagisa’s Dad

Property concept: When an alien race known as the Oni invade Earth, the chronically unlucky and unapologetically lecherous Ataru Moroboshi is selected as humanity’s representative in a duel for the fate of the planet! His opponent is Lum, the Oni’s very pretty princess, and it’s only thanks to Ataru’s unscrupulous behavior that he’s able to scrape out a win in a treacherous game of tag against her. Ataru thinks he’s had his lucky break at last, but when Lum takes a shine to him off the battlefield, the conflict follows him home as Lum invades not only planet Earth, but also the womanizing Ataru’s love life!
