Originally serialized in Comic Shitsurakuten from the November 2023 installment, Patience is a Virtue is a twenty-page story from creator Okumoto Yuta, who has almost a hundred chapters on the service. This marked my first experience with this particular creator as I was going and doing a little random sampling and wanted to try something different than the round of creators that I follow at this point. Obviously, they’re a popular creator but my experience in sampling and avoiding certain tags often keeps me from some creators, or simply because I go for a while without looking at anyone new because I have a backlog of creators I already want to check out. This one hit a sweet spot in the thumbnail and tags to make me curious and try it out, and to see if a whole new slate of stories were open to me.

The idea behind this works well and it’s also the kind of story that you want a sequel or follow-up on in some form. We’re introduced to twenty-something Ichikawa, a young man who has come back to his boring-as-hell rural town for a bit. He’s amused while walking near the school about a fence that he used to sneak through that’s still in the same shape. While remembering when he used to sneak through there, an attractive and quite busty woman stops to give him some grief over it. It turns out, of course, that she used to be his teacher in high school but left during his third year. She was strict but supportive and obviously, he had a crush on her. She’s able to remember him eventually but it’s not instant recall, which is a nice touch. Still, it’s a chance to reconnect with the past a bit and she invites him back to her place.

It turns out that she left when she got married and is back living here for some time now. But she’s also feeling in quite a way because her husband apparently is a fool who cheats on her, so she’s feeling like this is an opportunity for her since she knows Ichikawa isn’t staying. It starts off cutely sultry with her making him some food and then drinking a good bit while talking about the past, but she also makes clear what she wants and he’s more than happy to oblige. It’s a solid sequence of interactions between the two, though it gets al little comical at times, but it hits the right erotic notes as the two are no strangers to sex nor filled with any kind of hesitations overall. They’re just engaged in the moment, though Ichikawa would certainly like more. But he’s not foolish as he understands her situation, which we see in the stinger may be changing as time goes on. But in the moment? Stealing a moment of pleasure and happiness.

In Summary
There isn’t anything too deep or meaningful here but it’s a well-executed story that gives enough time to character to make you feel invested enough in that and the intimate sections are strong enough to be quite enjoyable. It’s one that feels like it needed a few more pages to make the transition from hanging out to intimacy a bit smoother, and perhaps a bit more on the backside as well. But it does the job and shows a creator who knows his talent and what to do with it. I’ll definitely be checking out more of their material to see if it catches my attention or if it’s different from this particular one.
