1 min read

With the success of Mai Mai Miracle and In This Corner of the World, folks are definitely looking forward to the next work from Sunao Katabuchi. While their work on Black Lagoon made me love them early on, these two films definitely cemented that even more. Back in 2019, they worked on creating a new company called Contrail to make their next film and it looks like things are slowly taking shape.

With a few details previously and some teasers to get people excited, we learned in May 2023 the title of the film with The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black.

Now, a new update has landed that reveals that the pilot video for it is set to debut next month at the Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair. The staff will be there for the event and will be revealing more details about the project.

The film has Chie Uratanai serving as the assistant director while Masashi Ando is the chief animation director. The project began coming together in 2020.
