Consider us a little salty on this one.

Aniplex USA brought out the Servant X Service on home video back in 2014 where it saw a DVD-only release after its 2013 broadcast and simulcast run on Crunchyroll – where it’s still available for streaming. Aniplex USA recently brought the show onto Funimation’s streaming platform back in 2020 with the full series is available in its original Japanese language only with English subtitles as no dub was produced. It’s available to viewers in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland.

Now, with it being ten years since the show originally aired, the distributor dropped a celebratory tweet about it yesterday morning.

The problem is that the show is only available for streaming now. The DVD is long out of print and no Blu-ray was ever released for it. It continues to cement the view among many, myself included, that home video releases are slowly drying up for a lot of properties and that distributors are basically becoming streaming management corps for the parent company back home and not much more.

Which is unfortunate because there are plenty of people who would like to have a high-quality version of the show to watch without being online all the time to watch it – or have data caps to manage as well.

Check out our review of the series.

Plot concept: In the Hokkaido Prefecture. In a certain city. In a certain government ward office. Following a few strange circumstances, Lucy Yamagami has been assigned to work here where her colleagues all seem to be
on the eccentric side. A workplace comedy about how Lucy Yamagami, along with her colleagues, actively and covertly (?!) serve their community every day!
