Netflix Schedules ‘Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune’ Anime Premiere Date

We learned last month about the anime adaptation of the science fiction novel series Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune from Carlo Zen and so-bin and now a premiere has been set. Netflix has confirmed a May 18th, 2023 debut for the show, though no promos are available for it yet or a cast list.

The project has Hideki Anbo directing it from the scripts by Mitsuyasu Sakai. Atsushi Tamagaga is handling the character designs with Arect working on the animation production.

The novel series began in 2017 and has two volumes published through 2018.

Plot Concept: The story is set in a future where the solar system is dominated by trade federations that are in constant conflict. In order to escape his restrictive homeland of Japan, and under the recommendation of his military cook friend Pupkin, Akira enlists in a trade federation orbital drop infantry unit. Such infantry are notorious for their 70% casualty rate and are nicknamed “Yakitori” for their expendability.
