Japanese distributor Flying Dog back in 2016 brought out two Blu-ray box sets for the King of Braves: Gaogaigar anime series that came in at about 60,000 yen for the full series. Media Blasters previously released the series on DVD in North America and it’s long been out of print. The show during its release in the early boom of anime in North America had its first twenty-five episodes dub but the back half never was because it couldn’t sustain the sales at the time.
Back in October 2022, Discotek Media announced their pickup of the forty-nine-episode series with plans for an early 2023 release for it. It’ll be in 1080p with the dub included for those first twenty-five episodes. Extras look to be pretty substantial with interviews, omake material, and more that has them still working on how to get it all figured out.
We also learned then that not included in the set but also planned down the line is the Gaogaigar FINAL series as well. That’s now set for an April 25th, 2023 Blu-ray release where it’ll be priced at $29.95 for its 180-minute running time. Extras include the clean opening and closings with teasers, commercials, musical performances, interviews, and more to be included as extras. A firm release date and pricing will come soon.

Plot concept: In the year 2005, a race of alien monsters called Zonders emerge from underground and launch a series of attacks on the city of Tokyo. The only defense against these creatures is the secret agency known as the Gutsy Geoid Guard (or 3G) and their ultimate weapon, the awesome giant robot GaoGaiGar. GaoGaiGar’s pilot, Guy Shishio, is a former astronaut who was nearly killed two years before when the Zonders first crashed to earth. Guy’s life was spared when a mysterious robot lion called Galeon pulled him from the burning shuttle and brought him to Earth. Guy’s father, Leo, then used Galeon’s technology to rebuild his shattered son as a cyborg, in the hopes that he could stop the aliens when they appear. Now, with Galeon as its core, GaoGaiGar fights to protect Earth. He is aided by a team of transforming robots and by a young boy named Mamoru, who has the power to purify the Zonders’ cores, and seems to be connected.
