While there are plenty of views and options on what DC Studios announced as part of their first slate of projects this week, the one that got me the most excited was hearing that Swamp Thing was getting another show. Clearly, we’re not expecting the strong cast and production team from the TV series to come back or anything – though the folks in North Carolina where it was filmed are already trying to draw the production there – we’re certainly hoping that what was learned on that excellent project will inform some of what’s to come.
The new film is obviously still in early development but the folks at The Hollywood Reporter are now hearing that James Mangold is looking at taking on the project. With recent work on things like Logan and the upcoming Indiana Jones film, it’d definitely be an interesting fit and the reporting is that he’s in talks for it.
Previously, DC Studios co-heads talked about it with Peter Safran saying, “The final film we wanted to talk about is Swamp Thing. We bring it up because it’s important to point out that in these stories, although they’re interconnected, they’re not all tonally the same. Each set of filmmakers bring their own aesthetic to these films, and the fun is seeing how these tonally different works mash up in the future. This is a film that will investigate the dark origins of Swamp Thing.”
