Crunchyroll Adds ‘Lucky Star’ Anime English Dub Streaming

2 min read

We’ve been having some fun in the past year talking about the Lucky Star series as we’ve had a German release out and the news of a new manga surfacing for it. The anime is getting some additional attention as the new year gets underway as Crunchyroll has now added the series in its English dubbed form to its service. They had added the original Japanese language with English subtitles back in 2017 in partnership with Funimation but as the merger of libraries continues, they’ve now added the twenty-four-episode run in dubbed form to it.

Check out our review of the series and our ten years later retrospective.

The show originally ran in 2007 and started off as a series of elaborate releases from Bandai and Kadokawa in North America that eventually slimmed down a lot over time as sales weren’t as strong as they had thought they would be. The Japanese releases are also a bit tricky in that the Blu-ray releases there are upscales, which has us wondering if FUNimation will be releasing it in that format. With previous upscales, of which there have been almost none lately, they do list that they are that and not native HD releases.

Plot Concept: What’s the best way to eat dessert? Do twins really have a psychic connection? What kind of guys are into moe girls? These are the kinds of questions that float through the inquisitive mind of anime super-fan Konata Izumi. When she’s not lost in her favorite manga or logging hours in one of her online games, she’s debating the mysteries of the universe with the best friends a girl could ask for.

And while they might not share Konata’s refined eye for anime tropes and trivia, she doesn’t hold it against them. After all, Miyuki Takara is a precious moe dream girl, and twin sisters Tsukasa and Kagami are always there when she needs a helping hand or a notebook to copy homework from (even if Kagami insists on being totally tsundere about it). At the end of the day, Konata could look far and wide, but she’d never find a better group of girls to get her through the horrors of high school!
