‘Reiwa no Di Gi Charat’ Anime Blu-ray Box Set Scheduled

A classic returns for the Reiwa era!

We learned last summer that the Di Gi Charat property is getting a bit of a revival with a new mini anime series being announced. The new series is part of a renewal for the new era and comes as the property is entering its 24th anniversary this year.  The show saw an October 7th, 2022 debut for it and now the Japanese home video release has been set for it.

The show is getting a complete BD/CD set that will arrive on April 12th, 2023 priced at 33,000 yen. The series will be on a single blu-ray set while there are five CDs that have the various music elements from the show. Check out the details here for the song side.

Hiroaki Sakura is on board to direct but with LIDEN FILMS handling the animation this time around. Madhouse animated all the prior works except for JC Staff on Winter Garden. Atsuko Watanabe is working on the character designs but the key visual that came with the announcement above was done by the original designer, Koge-Donbo.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Satomi Akesaka as Brocco-desu

Masami Okui is handling the theme song with “Aimaisa, Kofukuron.”

The property originally saw North American releases through Synch-Point in the early 2000s while Sentai Filmworks stepped in in the past decade to release the majority of the works.

Original Concept: The series follows Dejiko, princess of Di Gi Charat planet, and her companions, Puchiko and Gema, as well as Dejiko’s rival, Rabi~en~Rose through daily ordeals they encounter while working at Gamers.

Princess Di Gi Charat came from the planet Di Gi Charat given only a cat cap and an outfit to disguise herself. Unfortunately, she came with no money, only her guardian Gema and friend Petite Charat. Luckily the three stumbled upon a manager of the store Gamers, who offered them a home if they worked at the store. However, Di Gi Charat is a selfish young girl who wishes of becoming a star.
