Light novels continue to be fertile ground for new anime adaptations and the Spy Classroom work from Takemachi is on track. Announced during a Fantasia Bunko live stream back in March 2022, the official site is following through with some new details. With a January 2023 debut set for it, the folks at HIDIVE recently announced their pickup of the show for the season. Now, the Japanese side is updating again with a new key visual for the series as a whole, a new promotional video, and revealing a January 5th, 2023 premiere date.
The series has Keiichiro Kawaguchi on board to direct based on the scripts supervised by Shinichi Inotsume. Sumi Kinoshita is on board for the character designs with studio feel handling the production. The main cast is reprising their roles from the voice drama work that was done previously.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Sora Amamiya as Lily
- Yuichiro Umehara as Klaus
- Miku Ito as Grete
- Nao Toyama as Sibylla
- Aoi Yuki as Monika
- Sumire Uesaka as Thea
- Ayane Sakura as Sara
- Tomori Kusunoki as Annett
The opening theme song will be “Toka” as performed by nonoc, which is definitely a good get for the show
The light novels from Takemachi began in 2020 with six volumes out alongside two short story pieces. A manga adaptation is ongoing as well. Yen Press releases the light novels and manga in English.

Plot Concept: Following a devastating military conflict, countries fight their wars in the shadows. One unusual spy, Klaus, has never failed on the job despite his quirks, and he is building a team to take on an Impossible Mission—one with over a 90 percent chance of failure. However, his chosen members are all washouts with no practical experience. They’ll have to use every trick in the book (and some that aren’t) to prove they’re up to the task!
