It looks like Yen Press chose well with their pickup previously of The Eminence in Shadow in both its light novel and manga adaptation form as an anime adaptation is in the works. We learned back in February 2021 that an anime adaptation is in the works and recently it was set with an October 5th, 2022 premiere date.

Earlier this week, the folks at HIDIVE have revealed their plans for a simulcast of the series as an exclusive. The exact date and time of the broadcast will be coming closer to the Japanese premiere. On the Japanese side, they’ve now updated with a new key visual that places the main cast together in a really great setting that you can see being sold as posters and the like quite easily.

Kazuya Nakanishi is directing it based on the scripts overseen by Kanichi Katou. Makoto Iino is handling the character designs with Nexus handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Seiichirō Yamashita as Cid Kagenou / Shadow, Kana Hanazawa as Alexia Midgar, Yōko Hikasa as Iris Midgar, Asami Seto as Alpha, Inori Minase as Beta, Suzuko Mimori as Ganma, Ai Fairouz as Delta, Hisako Kanemoto as Epsilon, Ayaka Asai as Zeta, Reina Kondo as Eta, Rina Hidaka as Claire Kagenou, Saya Aizawa as Sherry Barnett, Haruka Shiraishi as Rose Oriana, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Hyoro Gari, and Shin Matsushige as Jaga Imo.

The light novel series from Daisuke Aizawa began in 2018 with the fifth volume coming out this week. The manga has five volumes out as well while the side-story series will be releasing its second volume. Yen Press has the rights to all three.

Plot Concept: Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!
