The summer 2018 anime series Made in Abyss saw its home video release handled by Sentai Filmworks in North America but the streaming side is from HIDIVE. With them also handling the films, we’ve had a good run with the property through them. We learned back in May 2021 that the second TV season is being slotted for a 2022 debut as Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City.

With Sentai picking it up last year, we learned recently that HIDIVE will be streaming it as part of what they’re saying is their biggest season ever. Now, the Japanese side has dropped a pair of new TV spots – 15 and 30-second spots – along with the first promo highlighting the upcoming home video release box sets, all of which teases just a bit of new animation and the theme music.

Check out our review of the series.

The show was directed by Masayuki Kojima based on the series composition by Hideyuki Kurata. Character designs were handled by Kazuchika Kise with Kinema Citrus on board for the animation production.

The English cast includes Luci Christian as Reg, Brittany Lauda as Riko, Brittney Karbowski as Nanachi, Monica Rial as Mitty, Shannon Emerick as Nat, Terri Doty as Shiggy, Daniel Regojo as Jiruo, Kalin Coats as Kiyui, John Swasey as Habolg, Christine Auten as Ozen, Kelley Peters as Marulk, Shelley Calene-Black as Lyza, and David Harbold as Bondrewd.

This season features the opening theme song “Katachi” as performed by Riko Azuna. “Endless Embrace” will be the ending theme song from MYTH&ROID.

The original work is by Akihito Tsukushi which began in 2012 and has five volumes out as of the end of 2016 as serialized in Web Comic Gamma.

Plot Concept: The enormous cave system, known as the Abyss, is the only unexplored place in the world. Nobody knows how deep down this titanic pit goes. It is inhabited by strange and wondrous creatures and full of mysterious ancient relics whose purposes are unknown to modern man. Generations of bold adventurers have been drawn by the cryptic depths of the Abyss. Over the course of time, those bold enough to explore the dangerous pit came to be known as “cave raiders.”

In Oosu, the town at the edge of the Abyss, there lives a little orphan named Rico, who dreams of becoming a cave raider as great as her mother was and solving the great mystery of the pit. One day while exploring the murky depths, she stumbles upon a little boy, who turns out to be a robot…
