“Isn’t That Overdoing It?”

What They Say:
The teen romantic comedy follows the “indecipherable” daily life of short, quiet Reina Aharen and Raidō who sits next to her in class. Aharen is not so good at gauging the distance between people (or personal boundaries), and Raidō initially sensed some distance between the two of them. Then one day, when Raidō picked up the eraser that Aharen had dropped, the distance between them suddenly became uncomfortably close.

From “way too distant” to “way too close” … Aharen is simply unpredictable.

Tobaru-sensei is quite the mysterious teacher, huh? The students say that she gets sick a lot. Does she have a health condition? She doesn’t. She does have a condition though. Her passion for classical romance is so great that she often gets flustered when she sees men and women together. I see, I see. It’s a good thing Tabaru-sensei works at a school where couples totally aren’t a thing, right? Yeah, I’m being sarcastic. At least there are no couples in her class. Oh wait, I guess Raido and Aharen are always together. Every time she looks at them, her heart goes doki doki. As you can probably imagine, this makes it difficult for her to teach. I understand now why everyone says she’s always sick.

During lunch, Aharen starts acting weird. Raido immediately thinks that she’s been possessed by the devil. As always, his imagination never fails to amuse me. In reality, she was choking on some food and she needed a drink. Aharen could have died! Raido comes to the conclusion that he needs to understand what Aharen is trying to say faster. That’s probably for the best. He attempts to teach her facial expressions but nothing really changes. Aharen’s expression never changes. Heck, Raido’s expression never changes much either. Perhaps he should have first taught himself different facial expressions before trying to teach someone else. Later that day, they go to a music shop and Aharen ends up falling in love with a rap CD.

Starting the next day, Aharen only communicates via rap. Aharen the rapper!? I like where this is going. She must have really loved that CD. Raido thinks that rap is the perfect way for Aharen to express herself. He must respond in kind! Sadly, he does not possess dope rhymes. But that’s something that a little practice can’t fix! In no time, both Raido and Aharen are pro rappers. They even carry a mic around everywhere they go! Now they can freely express what they’re feeling! The only problem with rapping all the time is that everything turns into a freestyle battle. I don’t know, that sounds kind of awesome. Imagine just having freestyle battles every day. Eventually, their fun is ruined when a teacher at school confiscates their mics. That teacher is a buzzkill. But hey, you don’t need a mic to rap! Aharen and Raido do though. I guess we won’t be hearing those dope rhymes any time soon.

Raido’s sister randomly gives him a fidget spinner. He’s not really into it but Aharen is. In fact, she becomes OBSESSED with the fidget spinner. She spins that thing every second of the day. I’m not even joking. It doesn’t matter what she’s doing, she’s always spinning that fidget spinner. I don’t think she even sleeps anymore! In the process, she does learn a lot of amazing tricks. But at what cost!? Sure, they’re cool and Raido is impressed. Is it really worth it though? Eventually, Aharen has spinned enough and gives the fidget spinner back to Raido. And then he becomes addicted to it. Oh boy! On a side note, Aharen’s spinner tricks made her popular with a group of kids that call her their king. Not everyone is a fan of the king though. A little girl named Futaba doesn’t like that Aharen is seducing her friend Akkun! It’s tough being the king. She challenges Raido and Aharen to a Reversi match. They both lose. Aharen loses on purpose but Raido actually got destroyed, haha. In the end, Futaba and Akkun make up. Aharen is exhausted though. That’s not a problem! With a quick of snap her fingers Aharen’s dog, Nui, shows up to take her home. I have no words.

In Summary:
I think this may be my favorite episode yet. It’s mainly because of that rap segment which was hilariously unexpected. Who knew that Aharen and Raido could spit such dope rhymes? Are these the rappers you’ve been searching for, Kongming!? Sorry, wrong show. I wish the entire episode was just those two freestyle rapping. It was great. Do you remember when fidget spinners were a big thing? People were really addicted to them back in the day and this episode reminded me of those times. I think I still have a box full of them somewhere. Kana Hanazawa voicing Tobaru-sensei is simply perfect. All in all, it was another fun episode. Aharen and Raido just have such good chemistry. It’s like they’re both the straight man and the comedian at the same time. I look forward to seeing what shenanigans they get into next!
