The fall 2020 anime adaptation of the Moriarty the Patriot property is getting some new attention which is definitely welcome. With the two-cour series having wrapped up, the Japanese side revealed in September 2021 that a two-episode OVA story is being produced with an original story. The OVAs made their theatrical premiere back on March 5th, 2022 where the first episode is an anime-original story while the second one adapts the manga chapter “Moriarty-ke no Kyūjitsu” for it.
Now, a new promo has landed to showcase the project and remind of its upcoming April 27th, 2022 home video release. The promo has material from both of the OVAs included in it.
Kazuya Nomura is directing it with Tooru Ohkubo on board for the character designs. Production I.G. is on board for the animation.
The previously announced Japanese cast includes Sōma Saitō as William James Moriarty, Takuya Sato as Albert James Moriarty, Chiaki Kobayashi as Louis James Moriarty, Makoto Furukawa as Sherlock Holmes, Yuuki Ono as John H Watson, Satoshi Hino as Sebastian Moran, and Yuuto Uemura as Fred Porlock.
The manga comes from Ryosuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi which began in Jump SQ back in August 2016. It’s produced ten volumes as of the announcement in December 2019. A novel was produced for it in fall 2018.
The dub has Rawly Pickens as the ADR director working from the scripts by Clayton Browning and Aaron Dismuke. The English cast includes Aaron Dismuke as William James Moriarty, Chris Guerrero as Albert James Moriarty, Howard Wang as Louis James Moriarty, Theo Devaney as Sherlock Holmes, Ryan Colt Levy as Dr. John H. Watson, Christopher Wehkamp as Sebastian Moran, Caleb Yen as Fred (Porlock), Suzie Yeung as Miss Hudson, J. Michael Tatum as Mycroft Holmes, David Matranga as Inspector George Lestrade, Chris Guerrero as Albert (Young), Barry Yandell as Earl of Argleton, Nicole Hodges as Countess Moriarty, Robert McCollum as Earl Moriarty, Anthony DiMascio as Eden, Matt Shipman as El, Laura Stahl as Louis (Young), Alexis Tipton as Madame Penieres, Anthony Skordi as Narrator, Phil Parsons as Richard, Kevin Thelwell as Roddy, Gregory Lush as Simon, Luci Christian as William (Real), and Emily Neves as William (Young).
The theme songs for the series include the opening being “DYING WISH” by Tasuku Hatanaka while STEREO DRIVE FOUNDATION will perform “ALPHA” as the ending theme song.
Plot Concept: James Moriarty is an orphan who assumes the name William James Moriarty when he and his younger brother are adopted into the Moriarty family. As a young man, he seeks to remove the ills caused by England’s strict class system.
