A new anime adaptation is in the works with a fairly recent manga series that got underway with Akebi’s Sailor Uniform. The series was announced in March 2021 and was recently set with a January 8th, 2022 broadcast premiere. With that closing in, and news that both Crunchyroll and Funimation will be simulcasting it, we missed that Crunchyroll had rolled out a subtitle version of one of the promos for it. The series hits in about a week and a promo like this will certainly click for fans of this particular genre, I think.
The folks at Funimation recently revealed their pickup of the series with the simulcast happening on the same day and being made available to audiences in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
The series will be directed by Miyuki Kuroki based on the scripts from Rino Yamazaki. Megumi Kouno is handling the character designs with CloverWorks handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Manatsu Murakami as Komichi Akebi, Sora Amamiya as Erika Kizaki, Akari Kitō as Tōko Usagihara, Shion Wakayama as Tomono Kojō, Akira Sekine as Kei Tanigawa, Shizuka Ishigami as Hitomi Washio, Yui Ishikawa as Riri Minakami, Momo Asakura as Hotaru Hiraiwa, Azusa Tadokoro as Riona Shijō, Miku Itō as Neko Kamimoku, Mariya Ise as Ai Tatsumori, Shiori Mikami as Ayumi Tōgeguchi, Mitsuho Kambe as Oshizu Hebimori, Kaede Hondo as Yasuko Nawashiro, Haruka Shiraishi as Mai Togano, Konomi Kohara as Minoru Ohkuma, Kana Hanazawa as Yuwa, Misaki Kuno as Kao, Satoshi Mikami as Sato, and Shuka Saitō as Miki Fukumoto.
The manga from HIRO began in 2019 and has eight volumes out as of April 2020 as serialized on the Tonari no Young Jump site.
