JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure creator Hirohiko Araki has delivered the news back in April 2021 that an anime adaptation is in the works for the Stone Ocean arc of his series. The highlight at the time was that Ai Fairouz, who has talked publicly about her desire to play this role someday, has indeed been cast in the role.

We learned in September 2021 regarding how it’s going to be presented on Netflix. The media center that Netflix uses to put information out to the press listed the show as streaming “monthly” on the service in Japan and elsewhere in the world when it debuts in December. It’s still set for a regular weekly broadcast in Japan on TV in January 2022, but how we’re getting it through Netflix is unclear.

Things have now updated once again as the page media center listing for this has removed the releasing monthly words. That does give us some hope that it’ll operate like Blue Period and we’ll see it as a weekly release, but until formal confirmation of what the real plan is, this is a big TBA.

The project has Kenichi Suzuki returning to serve as the chief director with Toshiyuki Kato as the series director. The series composition is being handled by Yasuko Kobayashi once again with Masanori Shino working on the character designs. David Production is back for the animation production as well.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Mutsumi Tamura as Ermes Costello
  • Mariya Ise as F.F (Foo Fighters)
  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Emporio Alnino
  • Yuichiro Umehara as Weather Forecast (Weather Report)
  • Daisuke Namikawa as Narciso Anastasia (Narciso Anasui)
  • Daisuke Ono as Jotaro Kujo

The Stone Ocean manga ran for seventeen volumes between January 2000 and April 2003 for 158 chapters from Hirohiko Araki as serialized in Weekly Shone Jump.

Plot Concept: In Florida, 2011, Jolyne Kuujou sits in a jail cell like her father Joutarou once did; yet this situation is not of her own choice. Framed for a crime she didn’t commit, she was manipulated into serving a longer sentence and now Jolyne is resigned to a dire fate as a prisoner of Green Dolphin Street Jail. Though all hope seems lost, a gift from Joutarou ends up awakening her latent abilities, manifesting into her Stand, Stone Free. Now armed with the power to change her fate, Jolyne sets out to find an escape from the stone ocean that holds her.

However, she soon discovers that her incarceration is merely a small part of a grand plot: one that not only takes aim at her family, but has additional far-reaching consequences. What’s more, the mastermind is lurking within the very same prison, and is under the protection of a lineup of menacing Stand users. Finding unlikely allies to help her cause, Jolyne sets a course to stop their plot, clear her name, and take back her life.
