The summer 2017 anime series Princess Principal finished up and in 2018 revealed that it would get a sequel in anime form as a six-part film project. The first film in the project was set for an April 10th, 2020 debut as Princess Principal: Crown Handler. Unsurprisingly, it was delayed indefinitely thanks to the pandemic but things are now getting back into place. The film arrived in Japan with a February 11th, 2021 debut, at which time we learned that the second film will arrive in the fall of 2021 in Japan.

Now, the folks at Bandai in Japan have set up the first home video release for the project. The first film is now scheduled for a September 28th, 2021 debut where it’s listed as a limited edition priced at 7,800 yen. It includes a booklet, a new six-minute OVA, cast specials, and an audio commentary – listing 130 minutes worth of extras. A rental-only DVD release will come out alongside it.

The production saw some changes from the TV series, notably with Aoi Koga taking on the role of Ange instead of Ayaka Imamura, who retired in 2018 due to health issues. The production has Masaki Tachibana back to direct but working with Noboru Kimura on the screenplay.

The Japanese cast includes Aoi Koga as Ange, Akira Sekine as Princess, You Taichi as Dorothy, Akari Kageyama as Beatrice, Nozomi Furuki as Chise, Takayuki Sugou as L, Miyuki Sawashiro as 7, Takumi Yamazaki as Colonel, Takaya Hashi as Duke Normandy, and Yuuko Iida as Gazelle.

The theme song for the film is “LIES and TIES” by Void_Chords featuring Yui Mugino.

Plot Concept: Following the attempted assassination of the Queen, manhunts for spies become a frequent occurrence within the Kingdom. In response, Control — the Commonwealth’s covert operations group — begins to suspect the presence of a double agent within the Kingdom’s royal family. In order to reveal the truth, Control dispatches spy ring “Team White Pigeon.” But danger lurks around every corner, and when you don’t know who you can trust, being a spy has never been more perilous for Ange and the rest of Team White Pigeon.
