As we knew previously, the second season of DC’s Stargirl is going to be an exclusive for The CW as DC Universe folded and HBO Max didn’t want to make it an exclusive there. Which is no surprise that The CW pushed hard for it as the first season, which was airing next-day after DC Universe, ended up being the most-watched summer debut in six years on the network.

The second season was recently given an August 10th, 2021 premiere as shows continue to deal with the pandemic and various delays in production, but now The CW has such faith in the show that they’re giving it a third-season renewal as well. Obviously, there are no plans for when that will premiere. The second season will get a secondary run on HBO Max as well as they co-finance the series with The CW taking the larger risk.

“We are beyond proud to continue to share the stories of Nicky Shen and Courtney Whitmore, two strong, powerful young women at the center of this new generation of hit shows for The CW in Kung Fu and DC’s Stargirl,” said Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The CW Network.  “While each boasts remarkable talent on both sides of the camera, Kung Fu and DC’s Stargirl have not only treated fans to some visually stunning action and high-flying heroics, but they also both strike very powerful emotional chords as they delve into the family dynamics and personal relationships at their core, and we are so excited to see what happens next.”

The main cast includes Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore / Stargirl, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez / Wildcat, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel / Doctor Mid-Nite, Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler / Hourman, Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Jake Austin Walker as Henry King Jr., Hunter Sansone as Cameron, Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman, Neil Jackson as Jordan Mahkent / Icicle, Christopher James Baker as Henry King Sr. / Brainwave, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan / S.T.R.I.P.E.

Season Concept: Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
