After having a pilot set up at Hulu previously, things have definitely changed for the development of the Sweet Tooth comic series from Jeff Lemire. Originally published by DC Vertigo, we saw this time last year that project was being set up at Netflix with Team Downey producing it, which is Robert Downey, Jr. and Susan Downey’s production company. It’s also got Jim Mickle and Beth Schwartz involved along with Warner Bros. TV. The series has been set for eight episodes at an hour each.
Now, the first teaser has come out for the property with the reveal of a June 4th, 2021 debut for it.
The project has cast Christian Convery (Beautiful Boy), Nonso Anozie (The Laundromat), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables) and Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) star with James Brolin as the voice of the narrator.
Plot Concept: Seven years ago, the Affliction raged like a forest fire, killing billions. The only children born since are part of a new breed of human-animal hybrids. Gus is one of these children, a boy with a sweet soul, a sweeter tooth-and the features of a deer.
When vicious hunters descend on his isolated forest home, a mysterious and violent man called Jepperd rescues Gus. The hulking drifter promises to lead Gus to The Preserve, a fabled safe haven for hybrid children.
As the two cross this dangerous new American frontier, will Jepperd corrupt the boy he’s nicknamed Sweet Tooth, or will Gus’s heart change Jepperd?
