Mads Mikkelsen Boards Fifth ‘Indiana Jones’ Film

2 min read

Indiana JonesIt’s hard to believe but it was back in 2016 when Disney announced the start of development for the fifth Indiana Jones film. We learned back in early 2020 that director Steven Spielberg is stepping back from directing it but will stay on as a producer. The film originally had a July 9th, 2021 release date but the pandemic and other changes threw all that to the wind. What we did get last year is that James Mangold boarded the project to direct it and were moving forward.

Last week we got the news that Phoebe Waller-Bridge was joining the film to co-star with Harrison Ford as the female lead for the project. Now, it’s being reported that Mads Mikkelsen has come on board the project as well in an undisclosed role. Mikkelsen has been scoring some solid roles and keeping himself busy the last few years in Hollywood while also enjoying what he gets dipping back into Danish cinema from time to time.

Production is expected to begin this summer with pretty much the main producers for past films in the series coming back and John Williams to score it as well. No plot details have been revealed nor what character Waller-Bridge will play.

The untitled fifth film is now scheduled for a July 29th, 2022 release.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman said back in 2016, The Walt Disney Studios in a statement. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

The four existing films have made over $2 billion at the box office worldwide and quite a good penny over the years through merchandise, rides, books, games and home video releases.

The film will be produced by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall. Harrison Ford will star.
