“We Made Tasty Food”

Natsumi asks Komari if she wants to come with the rest of the family to the department store. She passes. She’s just going to chill all day. Will Komari be alright by herself? Of course! She’s not a little kid. Natsumi isn’t convinced. What if a ghost shows up? Komari knows ghosts aren’t real! And if they were, they wouldn’t come out during the day. What about daytime ghosts? There’s no such thing! I can already tell that Komari is going to have an interesting day. She decides to get food from the kitchen once she’s alone. She hears weird noises and is immediately spooked. It can’t be a ghost, right? Correct! It’s actually a random weasel that got into the house. Komari has no choice but to capture it. But first, she has to answer the phone. She picks up and no one answers. What’s up with that!? Konomi, unfortunately, lost the signal on the other end. Komari is even more spooked now. She has an intense staredown with the weasel until the phone rings again. She answers and is told that she’s being watched. Komari immediately hangs up. I don’t blame her. She probably should have let Konomi finish what she was saying though. Anyway, Komari comes to the conclusion that the weasel is a daytime ghost that sends messages via phones. Classic Komari. She tries to catch the weasel but falls down. The weasel ends up landing on her face. By the way, the weasel had a smug look on its face the entire time, haha. Komari spends the rest of the day hiding in the closet. I bet she wishes she went shopping with the family.

Did you know that Komari could knit? I didn’t! Natsumi points that she has a weirdly hilarious expression on her when she’s knitting. Well, she and Hotaru promised to knit a present for each other. As you can probably imagine, it could be going better. It can’t be that bad, right? Natsumi attempts to put on the sweater her sister knitted but she can’t. There’s no hole to put her head through. Oof. She remarks that this isn’t a sweater at all. It’s long johns! I can see that. Regardless, Komari can’t give her terrible creations to Hotaru. She asks Natsumi for help. What is she supposed to do!? She better think quickly because Hotaru just arrived. She gives Komari a hand-knit sweater, beanie, and gloves. They look amazing. Komari looks at her sister with tears in her eyes. Time for Natsumi to work her magic! Remember that terrible sweater Komari made? Natsumi hypes it up as leg warmers. Nice! Hotaru happily accepts them. What’s next? The next thing Komari made was…a ball? I have no idea what she was trying to make, haha. Natsumi says that it’s clearly a ball meant to be used as a dog toy. After all, Hotaru has a dog! Nice save. The last Komari knitted was…well, I don’t even know how to describe it. Natsumi ends up claiming it’s a scarf. Komari can’t take it anymore and admits that she doesn’t know how to knit very well. That’s okay! Hotaru appreciates Komari trying her best. Next time, they’ll knit together!

Komari wants to make dinner tonight. Natsumi is against this idea. She doesn’t want to die! Wow, rude. I do get where she’s coming from though. Komari isn’t known to cook that well. Natsumi begs her mom to not let Komari go through with this. However, she’s cool with it. I guess they’re eating Komari’s cooking tonight. My condolences, Natsumi. Komari adds that she absolutely doesn’t want anyone’s help either. This should be interesting. She decides to make curry. The first thing she does is cut the onions. She immediately regrets it as she starts crying. Darn onions! Just onions should be fine for the curry. It was hard work! Oh boy. In a stroke of luck, she finds a pot full of leftover meat and potato stew from yesterday. Hey, that basically has everything she needs for curry! All she needs to do is reheat it and she’s good to go. She wants to add some sugar to it though. I don’t know about this. Strangely, she can’t find any. That’s because Natsumi took it to attract ants. At this point, Komari starts regretting her decision to cook. Why did she even want to do this!? Oh yeah, to show up Natsumi.

In the end, Komari asks her mom for help. A wise decision! With her help, she’s able to make delicious curry. Heck, even Natsumi is impressed! Good job, Komari!

In Summary:
The victim of this episode was Komari. Er, I meant to say star, not victim. Poor Komari does get teased a lot though. As you can probably imagine from a Komari-centric episode, there were a lot of great faces. She has some of the best facial expressions this show has to offer. Again, it’s a shame that they’re the result of the world bullying her. She has to deal with Natsumi, smug weasels, terrible knitting skills, and so many other things. Give her a break! I feel bad watching her struggle so much. It’s still funny, don’t get me wrong. It’s just also a bit sad. But hey, I’m glad she at least managed to make a delicious curry at the end. That’ll show you, Natsumi! Although, she does deserve some major props for helping Komari out. She did a great job hyping up Komari’s terrible creations. Natsumi would make a great saleswoman. And for the record, she inadvertently saved dinner. Can you imagine how things would have turned out if she didn’t take the sugar? Let’s just say that this episode probably wouldn’t have had a happy ending.
