What They Say:
“The Glowing Angewomon”

Taichi’s party leaves behind the beautiful underwater city and continues their journey toward the Eternal Continent’s center, FAGA. The party swims through the sea caves on Komondomon, but Digimon with powerful, dark energy block their way.

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Agumon and Biyomon are just casually riding on Komondomon’s head on the bottom of the sea. Agumon is having the time of his life while Biyomon is freaking out every second of possible dangers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this picture. Marineangemon gave them the ability to breathe underwater offscreen. Biyomon was right to worry as they soon under attack by sea type Digimon.

Tailmon is dealing with the PTSD of having become Darkknightmon. She fears that she won’t be able to live up to her past self. Her worst fear is that she is going to be a disappointment to Hikari. She has been an excellent protector so far so there no reason to worry. But that thought is always going to be nagging you from the back of your head. She starts off the battle on a high note as she defeats Ebimon. Then Ebimon digivolves to Gusokumon and her nightmares spiral out of control. Metalgreymon steps in to provide some support and get her back on her feet. Tailmon discloses to Hikari that she doesn’t want to digivolve because she is afraid of what she can become. She already witnesses the darkness when she became Darkknightmon.

Tailmon goes berserk when she becomes infected with the dark miasma from Millenniumon. She summons the spirit of Darkknightmon and has a bone to pick with her allies. Despite watching her Digimon fall into darkness once more, Hikari never waivers. Just when Darkknightmon ghost is about to stab Taichi, Hikari stands in the way. Her gentle spirit brings Tailmon back from the abyss once more. With Hikari’s bright spirit, Tailmon digivolves to Angewomon and one-shots MarineDevimon. It’s a waste to introduce Angewomon in terms of her power. She obliterates MarineDevimon with one move and everything is settled.

The ISS demise threat has been hanging over our heads for our while. It all finally comes down to a resolution with next week’s episode. I was tired of that always being in the background. It was set up to give Koshiro something to do but he didnt gets much of a chance to accomplish anything with it. This is a worldwide threat as Tokyo, Dallas, and Moscow are all being dragged into it. But there was never a sense of urgency compared to the threat level of the first Tokyo disaster.

In Summary:
The saving grace of this episode is how Tailmon overcomes her mental fears with the help of Hikari. For so long, this series had lost its way. Digimon excels when it demonstrates what makes the friendship special between Digimon and Digidestined. It’s magnificent seeing how Hikari becomes a light of shining beacon for Tailmon. It’s been knocking it out of the park in the past few episodes.

The one thing I can’t get past is how the battles have gotten stale. There is no excitement to them. A strong looking enemy Digimon shows up only to be obliterated by a one-punch move. This formula keeps being repeated and it’s been done to death now. It looked like MarineDevimon just stared into space waiting for Angewomon to destroy him. Make the digimonster of the week a strong adversity at the very least.
