With the original film out in 2017 and bringing over $800 million at the box office and selling a whole lot of merch, Warner Bros. is back with the sequel Wonder Woman 1984. Originally scheduled for a June 5th, 2020 release date, we had all sorts of pandemic related delays but with it landing in theaters and streaming, the results are positive for Warner Bros. at this point. The studio has announced that it’s fast=tracking a third installment with both Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot coming back for it. The current film has done $85 million worldwide after doing a $16.7 million North American debut this past holiday weekend where about half of the theaters are closed and the virus rages throughout many communities.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women – Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

In regards to its HBO Max performance, WarnerMedia reported that the film was viewed by “nearly half of the platform’s retail subscribers viewing the film on the day of its arrival, along with millions of wholesale subscribers who have access to HBO Max via a cable, wireless, or other partner services. HBO Max also saw the total viewing hours on Friday more than triple in comparison to a typical day in the previous month.”
